🌟 Celebrating Women's History Month 🌟 Dive into the incredible legacy of Dorothea Lange! 📸 Her pioneering style captured the raw essence of humanity, documenting the Great Depression, Japanese internment & beyond. 📷 Lange's impactful photography not only shaped the visual narrative of her time but continues to inspire generations, igniting social change through her lens. 🌹 There were three rules to which Lange always adhered: "Whatever I photograph, I do not molest or tamper with or arrange. Second: a sense of place. Whatever I photograph, I try to picture as part of its surroundings, as having roots. Third: a sense of time. Whatever I photograph, I try to show as having its position in the past or in the present." Kicking off #womenshistorymonth I'll be highlighting a few of my favorite #femalephotographers both past and present. Diane Arbus- 1923-71 Arbus's style of photography was MADE for my home town of New Orleans. Her imagery often inspired how I interacted with the streets. "She photographed a wide range of subjects including strippers, carnival performers, nudists, people with dwarfism, children, mothers, couples, elderly people, and middle-class families.[5] She photographed her subjects in familiar settings: their homes, on the street, in the workplace, in the park. "She is noted for expanding notions of acceptable subject matter and violates canons of the appropriate distance between photographer and subject. By befriending, not objectifying her subjects, she was able to capture in her work a rare psychological intensity."- Wikipedia She came from an extremely affluent back ground but chose an alternative lifestyle to the socialite status of her mother. Arbus is an absolutely fascinating artist I could go on and on about. Tragically, Diane took her own life at the young age of 48. Photographer Joel Meyerowitz told journalist Arthur Lubow, "If she was doing the kind of work she was doing and photography wasn't enough to keep her alive, what hope did we have?" Sometime I wonder... In 1986, Arbus was inducted into the International Photography Hall of Fame and Museum. There are a number of documentations and films about her life and work. It is with a heavy heart I make this post. After attempting all avenues (we could find) to expatriate Jolene to New Zealand it appears we just can't make it happen. Our sweet beloved Jeep is for sale. She's got 66,000 miles, has been lovingly maintained and meticulously outfitted with over $17,000 worth of upgrades. Every once in a while, you get to spend a day with a group of people so magical, so completely surrounded with support and absolutely 100% in love, that it makes everything you do worthwhile.
Luke and Tamara are just such a couple. We spent a stunningly beautiful spring day in Benton Louisiana at the Sainte Terre wedding and event venue where the extremely attentive staff carefully set a perfect rustic country style wedding. Complete with a taco bar and a fantastic selection of local craft beer.
